Galicia surfing
General Description:
Galicia is a mountainous region of Spain with a rugged coastline combining high cliffs(some of the highest in Europe) with beautiful sand beaches. Away from the few populated areas you will find stretches of beach all to yourself, even in summer. Most breaks are beach/point breaks with a few reefs located in the N of Galicia and a good spot, Patos(close to Playa America) in the SW. It can get suprisingly busy in the summer at the most famous spots but exploration will pay off whatever time of year. Climate can be frustrating in Winter especially with high winds and rainfall. A problem on the Galician coast is finding breaks small enough to surf in the winter season. When big, the Pontevedra region has good breaks to discover.
Famous Spots:
Pantin, Annual 'Pantin Classic' contest help every September.
Local Talent: Gony Zubizarreta from Vigo, almost qualified for 2010 WCT. Lots of hot groms but general standard not high (compared to rest of Spain, Portugal)
